2010 in review.

The end of year meme. I was going to tack on this "fandom" end of year meme but it kept asking me questions about the fandoms I planned to get into. Am I the only one who doesn't EVER "plan" to check out fandoms? I'll watch TV shows, yeah, but I never go into a TV show/movie/book/etc for the sole purpose of fandom. Fandoms find me. So there.
For previous years, please see: 2006, 2007, 2008, & 2009. (Older years will be locked down again in a few days. Honestly can't remember what I wrote in them, kind of too afraid to reread.)

01. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Quit my job! That was pretty monumental. I mean, I quit Sonic (fast food place) to go to college, but I don't think that's the same as quitting my post-college job. Oh, and I also navigated NYC by myself! Took a train to Long Island all on my own, navigated the train schedules and everything. Had my own clients. Hailed a cab. Quite a few things, I guess, but the job thing was really the most important.
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions? Will you make more for next year?
I kept a few. A complete list from last year is as follows:
I um, only completed (1) and (4)?
Next year I will:
03. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. One of my best friends found out she was pregnant though, so uh next year I will have a yes answer to this. (Oh yeah, there were a few cousin births this year. But who really cares about that!!)
04. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.
be_merry's mother. I won't claim her mom and I were bff or anything, because we weren't anything like that. I was still in the process of getting to know her family at that point.
05. What countries did you visit?
No countries, but I went back to Georgia! and New York quite a bit.
06. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
The start of a career, not just a "job". Also, the ability to flirt/have an actual romantic relationship. (Much harder than it sounds!! For me at least. Awkward to the extreme.)
07. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Oh dear. These dates are approximate, so I guess they aren't all that etched. End of July - quitting my job. November 8th - starting my new job. Mid June - chillaxin with
unrequitedangst in NYC. Early January - meeting
boyfolk for the first time. Also in March or something when we explored the city together, ending with cupcakes!!! September 9th -
yamapea's bday party. August 9th - saying goodbye to Audrey when she moved to Illinois. August 9th - ending a friendship of 11+ years! (and a few dates in December relating to the same friendship)
08. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I honestly don't know what to say to this. I don't think I accomplished much? I would say getting a job where I don't hate my life, but honestly I'm not terribly satisfied by it. Losing 10 pounds, maybe????
09. What was your biggest failure?
Not joining any sort of "groups" - no choir, no French speaking groups, no 20-somethings group at my church, no nothing. I need to meet people outside of my comfort zone aka high school friends and work friends.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing so serious that I can recall it now.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
WELL I JUST GOT A FEW CUTE NEW JACKETS. Also some great necklaces. I guess the greatest purchases were 1) Wii, 2) Supernatural blu rays, 3) The Vampire Diaries blu rays, 4) Lorraine Heath regency romance novels, and 5) Kate Spade generic work bag. Actually thinking about it now the best thing may have been that Kate Spade bag.
HAVE A PIC.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Christy (
be_merry), for some obvious reasons. Audrey, for being such a great voice of reason. Ian, for much the same reason. Naomi, for the strength and courage she shows no matter the situation she is faced with.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Ha ha ha hahahaha well there is only so much I can say on a public livejournal entry :) :) :) there was something that happened recently that I thought was pretty ridiculous! Well, two somethings. OH YEAH ALSO GLEE GOD WHY ARE YOU SUCH AN ANNOYING SHOW WITH SUCH GREAT MUSIC.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Student loans, designer bags, TV seasons, clothes, food, movie tickets.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
New episodes of The Vampire Diaries after marathoning the series up to that point.......... The new season of Supernatural. Quitting my job. Meeting
unrequitedangst and
boyfolk. Chillaxin with my gurl Rachel/
this_years_girl when she was visiting from LA.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2010?
All of the hits of 2010? Nothing stands out. Perhaps Firework.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Networked. Applied for (more) jobs. Met new people.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Feeling sorry for myself (first for hating my job, then for being unemployed).
20. How did you spend Christmas?
With the extended fam. We had dinner, saw the little ones open gifts, walked to this awesomely decorated house, it was pretty nice all around. Christmas Eve was spent with the immediate family... we opened gifts? It was not that exciting.
21. How will you be spending New Years?
Christy, Vanessa, and I will be marathoning select Disney movies and their sequels. WIth a bit of alcohol thrown in, of course. mostly at my insistence. Movies that made the cut: Toy Story, The Lion King, Pocahontas, Aladdin, and Mulan.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Nope.
23. How many one-night stands?
DO YOU REALLY THINK I'LL EVER ANSWER YES
HINT: YOUR ANSWER SHOULD BE NO
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Ohhhhhh my god. The Vampire Diaries :[
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope no hatred. Just a bit of lolariousness.
26. What was the best book you read?
I didn't read too many books this year but I discovered Lorraine Heath writes more than cowboy romances, which was exciting to say the least! I also reread Conrad's Fate a little while ago and it was just as wonderful as I remembered--honestly, probably more so.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Nicki Minaj? Far East Movement? Re-discovery of AAA? Nothing super exciting.
28. What did you want and get?
A Ralph Lauren turtleneck... oh and I quit my job and found a new one within three months. That was a lot more soul crushing than I make it sound, but at one point in the year I wanted it more than anything.
29. What did you want and not get?
Dream job! I guess it will happen one of these days.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Tangled. God I need to update my movie post.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Shit for once I couldn't remember. I turned 22. Apparently I had a job interview with Facebook in Austin, and then I spent the night at my friend Jennifer's where I showed her the awesomeness of Persona 3. Possibly also had dinner with Alicia. Btw, if you are new or out of the loop or curious, I didn't get the job.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A smooth, uninterrupted transition of job to job.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
LOFT-chic. My goal for 2011 is BOLD JEWELRY! Most especially bold necklaces.
34. What kept you sane?
My friends, my family, lunches with my ex-coworkers reminding me why I quit my job.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Well I'm really loving Candice Accola right now, but that's a recent development. (Her twitter! So adorable!) Colin Firth always has first place in my heart.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
As
notions put it... "The gays".
37. Who did you miss?
Audrey & Alicia.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I don't think I met anyone new/particularly exciting IRL. I have quite enjoyed my recent thoughtformedooc chats with
wither though. Hello, Erin.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
DON'T QUIT YOUR JOB WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE IN SIGHT. YOU WILL MOST DEFINITELY EXPERIENCE A LOSS OF SELF WORTH. only do it in the most extreme situations.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
NOTHING

iii. richer or poorer? Poorer ha ha ha that is what happens when you live off your savings for three months. And switch from a well paying job to a temp one lololol #poorlifeplanning #firstworldproblems

Date: 2010-12-31 03:34 am (UTC)I went to a Kate Spade outlet last month and pretty much had to be dragged out even though I purchased nothing. Always so classy and cute! Just like you... ♥ ♥

Date: 2010-12-31 03:44 am (UTC)Goodness I love Kate Spade stores. Went to one in the mall today, haven't been to the outlet in months though ugh I would love to. Every time I get an email from Kate Spade I just stare longingly at everything on the website. There is this cute iPhone cover that has the rotary dial on the back and my friends had to talk me out of it. I WAS SO TEMPTED.

Date: 2010-12-31 03:58 am (UTC)There aren't a lot of places that carry Kate Spade around Vancouver so I always have to make ~ pilgrimages ~ down to Seattle. I'm always tempted by the really bright/garish pattern dresses akldjal
