2008 year in review.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Met [livejournal.com profile] yamapea. Flew alone, all on my own, no study abroad/travel group to meet up with, bought the ticket without anyone else's help. Went to karaoke. Graduated college. Held a full-time job. Began repaying school loans.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't make any last year. I would, however, like to make some for this year:
(1) Eat healthier
(2) Cook one meal each week
(3) Exercise regularly
(4) Aim for happiness
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Anna is pregnant! Does this count...

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My Great Aunt Frances. Her husband had passed away last year.

5. What countries did you visit?
Can Georgia count? Didn't go anywhere else this year.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A hot bod.

7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Meeting Ariel! Interviewing for my job! Getting the phone call that I HAD the job! My first day!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Convincing my parents to let me meet Ariel? Actually going there! Getting a job a month after graduation.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Gosh, I don't know. Not having enough patience? Being inflexible? Being too harsh on others? I guess there's a lot of room for improvement.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Asthma. God such a frustrating time dsfojgkj when I was a kid, the doctors said I would grow out of it, and then... Audrey got her cat and WHAM! YOU NEED AN INHALER! I don't use one anymore but I do have to admit the cold air has made some of the asthma come back.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
iPhone. Definitely.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friend Naomi, who has spent the year battling cancer. Christy, for being the sweetest person ever. [livejournal.com profile] unrequitedangst, for listening to my constant whining.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Oh, you know. Here and there were some decisions I didn't agree with. I don't want to dwell too much on it.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Oh my god. Plane tickets, my TV, my phone, CLOTHES, Christmas gifts. ALSO SO MUCH USELESS SHIT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. I need to make a resolution to spend less money. Gotta get that credit card bill down now that I'm making loan payments.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Meeting Ariel and Ian! Getting a job! Getting a promotion! Starting the next chapter in my life!

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Hm, I don't think anything really reminds me of 2009.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
(a) happier or sadder? Ugh, I wouldn't say I'm sadder, but I am definitely more prone to wallowing and depressed self-pity nights.
(b) thinner or fatter? Fatter... hence the gym membership.
(c) richer or poorer? WAY RICHER, even with the loan payments. Yay.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Going out. Meeting new people.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Getting depressed about work hours. Sitting on my ass doing nothing. General laziness.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Lunch with the family, then Sherlock Holmes with [livejournal.com profile] this_years_girl.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
No.

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Bones, Ohitorisama.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, no hatred.

24. What was the best book you read?
Um. What Happens in London by Julia Quinn........? I can't really remember. I didn't read much this year.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
JAY SEAN!!! Ke$ha. Did I discover SS501 this year? Them too, but less for the music and more for themselves.

26. What did you want and get?
A job!

27. What did you want and not get?
Contentment in my job? A boyfriend.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, Inglourious Basterds.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 21, and Alicia took me out to Cheesecake Factory for dinner and my first ~*legal*~ alcoholic drink.

30. What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Money??? I don't know. Living with my parents?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Buy clothes from Anne Taylor Loft --> ??? --> Profit!!

32. What kept you sane?
Oh gosh I don't know. My mom? My dad? Being able to call Christy to meet up for a quick chat after work.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jungmin. Arashi. Zachary Quinto. Anton Yelchin. John Cho.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
I had an answer for this a week ago. Now I can't remember what it was. I guess it didn't stir me that much, huh.

35. Who did you miss?
It was less of a "who" and more of a general thing--"my life in Austin".

36. Who was the best new person you met?
Aditi, Eric, Justin, Stephen, Riz. Basically, my work friends...

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
You have to make the best of what you've got.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
There's nothing left to say
Don't waste another day

Okay I don't know if that really sums up my year but it's the best I can do. You should all just be happy that I tried, okay :[

Happy New Year everyone! I hope it's a good one. I am staying at home so idk I will probably wander out at midnight and wish my dad a Happy New Year and that will be the extent of my celebrations. I think I may go outside and take a walk for a bit right now; I'm feeling kind of restless.

for once im going to do this!!! this is quite interesting. HOW IS OHITORISAMA i am afraid of older lady/younger male dramas idk why probably because of the horrifying experience i had with the drama where matsujun was a dog

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Christy, for being the sweetest person ever.

Coooooooourtney, I really don't know how to respond to that without sounding trite or egotistical. Therefore I'll settle for "I love you" just because you're you and amazing and fantastic (and a whole bunch of other superlatives that also apply).

Being able to call Christy to meet up for a quick chat after work.

Quick chats that ended up being not so quick and got us not so subtly kicked out of Panera Bread are my favorite. ♥

happy new year, courtz!! are you still watching You're Beautiful right now? it's one of the first kdramas I enjoyed since Coffee Prince. hilariously/horrifyingly, I'm all about 2PM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO1EdwrNtpU) right now. . . I think, one day I will outgrow Korean pop. It just isn't today. :(

LOLING, oh 2PM. I see you have joined the bandwagon.... meanwhile I have like, reverted to 2007 and am going strong with the Arashi lovin. I still feel like I should watch Coffee Prince. When you left this comment I was still watching You're Beautiful regularly but I stopped for the weekend and like.... haven't picked it up again. This is what always happens to me with kdramas. I can't figure out if I will finish or not....

HAPPY NEW YEAR

You have a hot bod currently, girrrrl~

Also ANNE TAYLOR LOFT A++. We don't have them in Canada, and they don't take international billing addresses on their online store, so every time I go down to Seattle I get too excited and spend all my money there :(

That is only because you can't see it in rl!! Either way, I am determined to make it even hotter this year~~

That is such a tragedy that you don't have them in Canada :( I don't know what I would do without it. Did I ever mention that my mom got me a gift card there for Christmas? Definitely one of the best gifts ever.

I have spent so many of the last few months feeling sorry for myself and YOU KNOW WHAT, no more!!!! I will change my life. I feel like one of my resolutions should be regular updating of the food blog too. I cooked something like... last Saturday and still haven't updated it. Whoops!

happy new year!

richer or poorer? WAY RICHER, even with the loan payments.

lol, it would be really bad if this wasn't he case. cuz compared to last year's meme, almost everything is about the job this year-- if all that work and effort wasn't paying off somehow, that just wouldn't do. XD

i will never stop being horrified at how much you guys pay in university fees. we are already angrily shaking our fists at the governments plans to top fees up to £5000 a year skdjf.

i approve of all of your new year plans, and might in fact steal them all for myself, particularly the last one, even if it's something as silly as reading a good book/fic to feel happier :)

sobbing I realized like... a month ago that I HAVE ANOTHER LOAN THAT I'D FORGOTTEN ABOUT. AHHHH I WILL BE IN DEBT FOREVERRRR I just really hope I can manage to get ONE of the loans paid off this year so that I don't have to worry about any of the others.

gosh that is such a good idea, the book/fic thing. right now I think that playing Kingdom Hearts II is my way of accomplishing #4...

I KEEP WAITING FOR THE YEAR THAT YOU HAVE A ONE NIGHT STAND or at least don't take out the question

From: [personal profile] chrestomanci
AHAHA OH MAN I'd totally forgotten that I took that question out of this meme! I don't think the one night stand will ever happen though so we'll just have to wait and see if next year I put the question back in...

...you know, someone told me once that spending a lot of money on useless stuff when you first get a job is a good thing, because it means after a while you feel indulged and actually want to make the effort to save up and all that. Not sure if this is so, but it sounds like a comforting thought? :/

I like your resolutions! Cheering you on especially for #4; I'm sure there's an Arashi quote that's very appropriate for this, but I'll just go with the good old *\O/*

omg. OMG I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT. I do feel less inclined to spend money on stupid shit because... I've already bought the super expensive useless things that I wanted to! Now it can all be dedicated to clothes (ehehehe) and loan payments (gross).

AHAHA there probably is but I can't think of it either. Thank you :")
